How far have you gotten?

Explain where you are without giving away ANYTHING important. Don't talk about anything past chapter 5. Give your overall first impression and a favorite part/ quote that you really enjoyed.

I have just finished chapter 5. So far it's interesting and easy to read. I love the way the author adds in a bit of history, philosophy, and human nature/intuition in the story.

So far, my favorite part was where Piscine describes living in the zoo. Normally, I don't really like too much description, but in this case, I was able to fully imagine his childhood experience. When the authors says, "animals in the wild lead lives of compulsion and neccessity within an unforgiving social hierarchy in an environment where the supply of fear is high and the supply of food is low and where territory must constantly be defended and parasites forever endured. What is the meaning of freedom in such a context?" He really makes you think about how we as humans live our everyday lives. I like that.

Up to chapter 5 I was somewhat bored. I kept having to force myself to concentrate because the speaker was talking about sloths adn pools which don't interest me. I did like how Pi described the zoo and how he tried to persuade the reader that zoo's wern't a jail, as so many people believe them to be. "Animals in the wild lead lives of compulsion and necessity wihtin an unforgiving social hierarchy in an environment where the supply of fear is high and the supply of food low and where territory must constantly be defended and parasites forever endured," according to Pi.

When I read yours, I didn't know it was the same quote either. I had completely forgotten what I had said. That's funny.
